There are several websites which let you play poker for free. We stop by a couple of them, as our schedule permits. But now the Massachusetts Institute of Technology is going beyond that - with an eight-session free online course.
But because this is a scholarly institution, the course goes beyond simple rules. There's at least one video which offers a history of poker, and includes this noteworthy statement: "Casinos hate poker... somebody in the building was losing money and the casino wasn't getting it."
This explains why it's good to tip your dealer - and why casinos have high-dollar tournaments, so they can collect a profit from buy-ins. It's a business to the managers, and that's not necessarily a bad thing.
But winning "free money"from poker is a wonderful thing - and sometimes the best things in this life truly are free:
For all have sinned, and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. - Romans 3:23-24
All of us have broken God's commands, in some way or other. But Jesus came to redeem us from the penalty of our sins:
For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. - Romans 6:23This amazing opportunity is free for you - but not merely to keep it to yourself.
Freely you have received, freely give. - Matthew 10:8b
Jesus said this concerning disciples who went out doing miracles - but it also applies to preaching the message that God's Kingdom is near (verse 7). It's the message we offer here. For free. Maybe someday we'll get to the video part.
